Volunteering

LENDING TIME TO MAKE CANYON MEADOWS A BETTER PLACE

We Need Volunteers!

Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbours, strengthen community spirit, develop your skills and more! Check below to see some of the events CMCA could use some help with in the near future!

What we can get out of volunteering for the community.

Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity where an individual or group provides services for no financial gain “to benefit another person, group or organizaiton”

  • have working relationships with the City on important issues
  • operate facilities: arena, upper & lower halls, resource centre
  • maintain & operate facilities for the betterment of the community

Volunteering With CMCA

So many options to help make our community a better place to live!

Volunteering is lending your time to ensure a high quality of life for Canyon Meadows residents through recreation programs and services, active committees to better the neighborhood as well as hosting social gatherings such as: civic affairs, fundraisers and special events as well as tending the skating rinks in the winter.

  • Bingo

CMCA does 10 bingos/year on Fridays from 10:30am-3:30pm. Various easy-to-learn positions. Lunch is provided. Carpooling can be arranged and taxi and babysitting costs can be reimbursed! (Receipts required)

  • Casino

Casinos run once every 18 months in a smoke-free environment. Positions include: Manager, Chip Runner, Cashier, and Count Room Staff. Meals are provided and taxi and babysitting costs can be reimbursed! (Receipts required)

  • Ongoing CMCA events

Help out at Spring Community Clean Up, Neighbour Day, Christmas Craft Fair, Tour of Lights and we’re looking to add more to the roster, bring your ideas!

  • Board of Directors

We meet every second Tuesday of the month September through June from 7-9pm at the Community Hall. This is a good opportunity to contribute your skills to a worthwhile, non-profit organization. If you have a pet project (or peeve), a special committee can be formed to tackle specific projects – allowing residents who cannot commit to a Board of Director position to work on what is important to them. A committee must have one Board member sitting on the team.

  • Outdoor skating rinks

Due to the volume of inconsistent cold weather and chinooks in Calgary, we as a community need a large volume of volunteers for the upkeep of the ice rinks and skating space in the winter as well as supervising and possibly opening and closing of the rink room and concession stand for all members that use this wonderful space.
