Did I just hear a robin singing? It’s that time of year when the birds come back from their winter homes and build nests for the upcoming warmer weather. We’ll think about how birds create their nests and use paper, wheat paste and natural materials to make nests of our own.
A Recipe of Sticks, Mud and Grass (Ages 4 to 6)
Artists will use shredded paper, wheat paste, and a variety of organic material to create a nest just like a robin does! We’ll even include some pieces of cattail reed gathered from the south pond of Babbling Brook (when the city culled the reeds from the pond). Artists are invited to bring a handful of materials from the neighbourhood such as evergreen needles, sticks, dried leaves and pieces of other dried plants. I’ll have a collection of materials available as well.
A Bird’s Tiny House (Ages 7 to 10)
Artists will use shredded paper, wheat paste, and a variety of organic material to create a nest. We’ll even include some pulp made from the cattails gathered from the south pond of Babbling Brook (when the city culled the reeds from the pond). Next, we’ll think about the furniture needed to furnish this tiny house. Artists are invited to bring a handful of different kinds of sticks from the neighbourhood. I’ll have a collection of sticks available as well.
Beautiful Nests (Ages 11 – 14)
Artists will use layers of opaque, semi-transparent and transparent paper, wheat paste and organic material to create a set of 3 small nests. We’ll include paper made from the cattails gathered from the south pond of Babbling Brook (when the city culled the reeds from the pond). Artists are invited to bring a handful of small organic materials such as seeds, evergreen needles and dried plant pieces from the neighbourhood. I’ll have a collection of materials available as well.
