Volunteering
LENDING TIME TO MAKE CANYON MEADOWS A BETTER PLACE
What we can get out of volunteering for the community?
Volunteering is lending your time to ensure a high quality of life for Canyon Meadows residents through recreational programs & services, active committees to better the neighborhood, maintaining the ice rinks in the winter and social gatherings (such as civic fairs, fundraisers & events).
- A great way to meet your neighbors & strengthen community spirit
- Develop your skills in planning & civic awareness
- Help maintain & operate facilities for the betterment of the community
- Encourage friends & neighbors to participate in community events
- Feel good knowing you are making a difference in your community
How can I help my community?
- Bingo
CMCA does 10 bingos/year on Fridays from 10:30am-3:30pm. Various easy-to-learn positions. Lunch is provided. Carpooling can be arranged and taxi and babysitting costs can be reimbursed! (Receipts required)
- Casino
Casinos run once every 18 months in a smoke-free environment. Positions include: Manager, Chip Runner, Cashier, and Count Room Staff. Meals are provided and taxi and babysitting costs can be reimbursed! (Receipts required)
- Ongoing CMCA events
We have many long standing annual events that we always need help with, such as the Spring Community Clean-up, Christmas Tour of Lights & Neighbor Day! There are also opportunities to volunteer with membership drives & monthly events.
- Board of Directors
We meet every second Tuesday of the month September through June from 7-9pm at the Community Hall. This is a good opportunity to contribute your skills to a worthwhile, non-profit organization. If you have a pet project (or peeve), a special committee can be formed to tackle specific projects – allowing residents who cannot commit to a Board of Director position to work on what is important to them. A committee must have one Board member sitting on the team.
- Outdoor skating rinks
Due to the volume of inconsistent cold weather and chinooks in Calgary, we as a community need a large volume of volunteers for the upkeep of the ice rinks and skating space in the winter as well as supervising and possibly opening and closing of the rink room and concession stand for all members that use this wonderful space.
